A place to learn, be encouraged, and keep our eyes on Jesus.

Enough

I’ve been thinking about my old soul dog, Starburst lately. I got into a bad habit as she got older. I would come home from Walmart with a toy for her. Her box was overflowing, she destroyed the toys. Perish the day if I would forget a toy in those magical plastic bags, she would meet us, sit, and wait. So, someone would run into the house and grab a toy. She knew. She would be quite offended. There were never enough toys. And honestly, it brought me such joy to give them to her.

It’s easy for us to play the compare game, wishing for something else. I can look for God to move in the same way as he did before. I can look at my present circumstances and wish for something better. What hits me this morning is the gifts he has given me. I’m looking in the Walmart bags, wanting something different, or new.

I have recently read the story of Jeroboam and his encounter with the Lord. (Stay with me) Let’s read God’s offer of blessing. (You can read his whole story starting in 1 Kings 11:26-)

“Then it will be, that if you listen to all that I command you and walk in My ways, and do what is right in My sight by observing My statutes and My commandments, as My servant David did, then I will be with you and build you an enduring house as I built for David, and I will give Israel to you.”
‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭11‬:‭38‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

God offers the gift of his presence. Walk in God’s ways. Obey. Jeroboam chose his way, to rule in fear.

I am (you are as well) offered the gift of God’s presence. The death and resurrection of his son to redeem and save us. Peace that surpasses understanding. His presence is enough. More than enough. If I believe this to be true, then the whisper or thoughts that ask me to long for anything else will never satisfy.

One more thing, preaching to my heart here, as I look around my house, my people, my church, I honor my God when I turn back and say thank you. I used to write out my gratefuls every day, I need to get back to that! Why did i stop?

God I thank you for your presence this day.

    Cara,
Our Father God has blessed you beyond measure! Your gift of writings are soothing to my soul. Absolute truth from God’s word always comes shining through along with a chuckle or two!
Together we carry the burden of pain in this life with no vacation from it. But one day we’ll step into eternity, leaving pain far behind!

Amen my friend! Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement. As I was saying to Sandy Anderson recently, one day we will all be together. And what a day it’ll be.
