So, right now I’m staring at two plants I purchased at Trader Joe’s recently. Anyone who knows me can guess my next words. I either over watered or…you know, I’m just not sure. I am surrounded by people who have exquisite gardens, radiant green thumbs. My mom, my aunt, my boss all tend beautifully to lovely gardens.
I have a black thumb. Oh, I’ve tried. shout out to the time I tried growing early in our basement, with grow lights, only to find thousands of ants in the little stupid pots. Or, invested time and money into an actual garden..*fail*
The plants I now have are perennials? Annuals? (The ones that come back year after year.) Why can’t those words be easier? I think..oh whatever. This is my first spring in my house and I have loved the flowering trees and bushes that require no help.
Now that you know my inadequacies in gardening, I bridge to my point. There is one. Ha.
“Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked [following their advice and example], Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit [down to rest] in the seat of scoffers (ridiculers). But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And on His law [His precepts and teachings] he [habitually] meditates day and night. And he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season; Its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers [and comes to maturity].”
Psalms 1:1-3 AMP
Where am I watering in my life? Where am I listening to voices? Whose voice speaks the better word? Notice the progression: walk, stand, sit. First we walk next to it. We flirt with it. We wander around, following from a bit of a distance. When we stand, we are next to them. Listening. Agreeing. The shift is subtle, but substantial. And when we sit, it means we agree. We are resting with what was, at first, uncomfortable, wrong and strange. What areas in my life have i begun to do this? how about you?
My life, my choices, how I spend my actual day are reflective of the choices I make. Oh may i delight in his law. May I spend more time in his word than on social media, Netflix, whatever. May his words be like honey to me.
I may not be able to grow anything in a garden, but may my life have fruit. May my life reflect his word in my life. I’ve been very convicted as I type this out. I pray you think through this as you look out your window onto beautiful gardens or a dry patch of earth. Remember, God is so good. He welcomes you home to his flourishing garden. He will grow you into his creation, only dedicate your day to him.
Peace.
