I’ve gotten too much into my head about writing lately. I’ve wanted to have a consistent time of writing for this space and it’s taken about a month, but I finally have a reliable schedule. I started a new part-time job recently, but last month they wanted me to work full-time to get the hang of the job. Now, I’m in the routine and have a decent understanding of the job. There are questions that have been mulling around and it’s time to write these thoughts down.
This has been hitting me lately. When the Spirit is speaking to you, every time you go into quiet time. Every time you are in worship. When you are quiet, the same words come up. More discipline. More time contemplative. Less time on the phone, on things that hold our attention that aren’t Jesus. (Also God has a sense of humor because on my music playlist, LITERALLY, the song Only Jesus by Casting Crowns is playing.)
You know that feeling, right? What am I doing with my time? Now that I have more time, it’s even more important to me to use it well. Here’s where I struggle. Okay, so mornings are disciplined. I get up and I get that walk in right away. Then time for Bible, quiet time. I take my vitamins and drink my coffee. I eat a small breakfast. Blah Blah Blah. But then it’s open, or I’ve scheduled appointments, or time with my people. The calling gets blurry when I fill time rather than give my time to the Lord to show me.
My friend, Kim, asked this question: Does my faith in Christ produce a life that reflects Christ? If I’m not doing what my faith has called me to do, the answer is no. Ouch. I’m to speak the name of Jesus whenever I breathe. I’m to make my life a testimony. If I do what God has called, these things happen. They happen naturally in my life. So, how do I keep the discipline moving through the rest of the day?
It’s easy on a deadline or helping someone else with their project. It’s easy when I have study to teach or participate in. Yet, you have a calling too! We both have a mission from the Lord. What is more important? Obedience to the Lord brings everything into focus. So all I’m reading and studying, how does this reflect in my day to day life?
Before I lay my head down on my pillow, what do I want to make sure I have done? Maybe that’s the next thing I need to write.
Anyway, good to be back. 🙂 Peace and love.
