I’ve always loved a cloudy, rainy day. I love the chance to snuggle under a blankie, read a book, and have a cuppa. However, terms are limited, qualifications must be met. I don’t like weeks of clouds and rain. I also don’t like this weather when I have to be at work. I also appreciate the rain coming after my morning walk. As I said, I have terms. We are now in sunny and humid days that ratchet up the symptoms in my body and I’m sure for others as well. There’s something quite lovely about the sun peaking through the clouds or trees.
I’ve been on a kick lately of finding places where Jesus and rest coincide in the gospels and this morning I heard a verse on my walk from Psalm 36:7-9 “God, your faithful love is so valuable that people take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They are filled from the abundance of your house; you let them drink from your refreshing stream, for with you is life’s fountain. In your light we will see light.” (Italics/bold mine)
Refuge is found in his shadow, under his covering. Refreshment in his house, by his stream, his fountain. However, my favorite today is in your light, we will see light. Think about all the ramifications of this statement. When we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another. The blood of Jesus, his son, cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1) When we are in the light, we see sources of light around us. When you are out and about, are there not times when you know you are dealing with someone who knows the Lord? There is a way about them. In your light we will see light.
A cross reference for these verses in Psalm 36 are found in John 1. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” In your light we will see light.
One of my Grandma Clara’s favorite images was a lighthouse. The pictures she used to have were lighthouses on bright, sunny days, but of course, we know, the purpose of a lighthouse. Overnight, I struggled so much with my thoughts and worries about my house, getting it sorted to be cleaned and mitigated from flood damage. I tried to unravel the knots of what to do first. Then I would move my brain to concerns about my health. Then what about a job come August. And the circle continued. So I set my Dwell app to just read the word. Over and over. The word truly became a light until the peace and rest I so needed, protecting me from the rocky shore. In your light we will see light.
So, my friend, may I encourage you to walk in the light? When thoughts, feelings, and EVEN circumstances threaten to send us spiraling, what Scripture will you use to remind yourself that in your light we will see light. God bless you today. May his dear face shine upon you and grant you peace.
